XIvXI is the soccer card game for iPhone and iPad, with the same rules as the printed
card game. There are no accounts and a match needs no internet, so nearly everything that goes wrong is
one of the things below.
What you need
An iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or later. On iPhone the game plays upright;
on iPad, sideways.
For a friend nearby: a second iPhone or iPad with XIvXI, in the same room, and
Wi-Fi switched on on both.
Learning the game
Learn with XIvXI Academy on the Home screen starts the shared-deck starter game,
with a guided first match that walks you through a turn.
How to play on the Home screen has the Starter Rules and the Academy sheet, any
time.
The rules are the printed card game's rules, word for word: what you learn in the app works at a
table, and the other way round.
Ways to play
Play the computer
Choose your deck and the computer's, then kick off. The computer is a gaffer with a style of its own,
and it plays only to win.
Pass-and-play
Two managers on one iPhone or iPad: hand it across at the end of each turn. Each manager has their own
nickname, colours and record, kept on that device.
A friend nearby
One of you taps Play a friend nearby and waits; the other taps the same, picks the
friend's game from Games nearby, and types the four digits shown on the friend's screen.
That code makes a private, encrypted connection between the two devices, with no server in between.
The other device can't be found
Wi-Fi on, on both devices. Being on the same Wi-Fi network is best; devices close
together can also find each other directly. You do not need the internet.
Allow Local Network when XIvXI asks. If you tapped "Don't Allow", turn it back on
in Settings › XIvXI › Local Network.
The same version of XIvXI on both. If one device says it found a different
version, update both from the App Store.
Some Wi-Fi networks (hotels, offices, schools) keep devices apart. Try a home
network or a personal hotspot.
If it still won't appear, close XIvXI fully on both devices and open it again.
Purchases
What you get
XIvXI is free to download, with a free 30-day trial. Start it from the Store; it
plays XIvXI Academy, the guided first match included. When it ends, matches lock until XIvXI is bought;
How to play and the cards stay free to read.
Then buy XIvXI, the full app, once and it is yours, XIvXI Academy included: no
subscription, no ads. The launch price is $9.99; it goes up to $19.99 on 1 January 2027. You can buy it
during the trial or after.
More decks are optional once you have the full app: derby packs ($9.99) and club
decks ($5.99), from Store on the Home screen. Buy only the ones you want; each is bought
once and kept.
I paid and it didn't unlock
Open Store on the Home screen and tap Restore Purchases. Purchases are
tied to the Apple Account that bought them, so use the same one. If it still doesn't appear, the
App Store may not have finished: give it a minute and tap Restore Purchases again.
Do I have to buy decks again on my iPad?
No. Sign in with the same Apple Account and tap Restore Purchases in the Store.
Ask to Buy
On a child's account a purchase waits for a parent to approve it. The app says so, and the deck
unlocks by itself once the approval comes through.
Refunds
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us: visit
reportaproblem.apple.com. If something is broken,
please write to us first and we will try to fix it.
Your matches and managers
Managers, nicknames, colours and match records are kept on the device only. They are not backed up to
us, because there is no "us" to back them up to: XIvXI has no accounts and no servers. Deleting the app
deletes them.

Tell us your iPhone or iPad model, your iOS version, and what happened — that is usually enough to
work it out.
